Murals or wall paintings are usually paintings which are painted directly on a wall or ceiling, but they can be painted on canvas and then applied onto the wall later on aswell.
The first murals discovered by archeologists were painted on cave walls during pre-historic times when man attempted to express himself, his emotions, triumphs, general experiences and most importantly it was a form of communication.
There are different ways of painting murals, however, the most noted being the 'a fresco' style. When painting 'a fresco' the artist paints with waterbased colours on a surface that has been freshly covered with wet plaster. The finished painting would lighten in colour when it finally dried. A fantastic example of this amazing technique is Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel.
Today's murals are painted in a variety of styles using either acrylic or oil paints, painted on a variety of different surfaces from plaster to rendered garden walls.
Initially the first step involves a visit to you in the form of a free consultation to discuss your thoughts and ideas regarding your personalised mural. During this meeting we discuss the potential of your mural(s), all your decorating needs, and to asses the areas and surfaces where the painting will take place. At this stage your input is vital, and any ideas, magazine clippings, pictures, photos or any other specific images you may like to incorporate in your mural are most welcome. Photos will then be taken of the room/ walls to allow more accurate sketches of your mural prior to its commencement if needed.
The second consultation involves viewing the sketches to assist you in visualising the theme of the mural. This stage also enables us to "fine tune" the project and discuss any necessary changes. These colour sketches are subject to a small fee of $100 , as it takes time to work out the concept of each and evey mural. However, if you go ahead with the project this fee will be deducted from the final cost.
A simple mural can be painted in one day; it could also take days, weeks depending on how detailed and complex the mural is. It is usually possible to estimate the time required for the project at the second consultation.
The value of a hand painted, custom designed mural depends on the complexity and the size of the mural, as well as its location and the condition of surfaces to be painted on.
All murals painted by Artistic Murals are unique designs and will enhance and add beauty to your surroundings.
